Steve is a Sector Skills Manager at MCS, the UK’s quality mark for renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and heat pumps. His work focuses on skills and competence in the supply chain, supporting MCS’s mission to give everyone confidence in home-grown energy.

Steve brings a wealth of experience to MCS, having started his career as a plumber before moving into technical skills training and leadership development, as well as undertaking assessments and quality assurance in the education standards sector. He went on to establish a network of successful training centres on the South Coast, working with local authorities and education trusts.  

In his role at MCS, he is now contributing to the UK-wide effort to help people transition into low-carbon energy careers, both from within the industry and beyond, including through the development of the Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship Standard. Steve’s expertise in skills and training is underpinned by a genuine passion for celebrating high-quality training in the UK and supporting strong standards as the workforce undergoes the rapid growth needed to meet net-zero targets.
