Noel Cass

Research Fellow in Energy Demand Behaviour, University of Leeds
Dr Noel Cass is a Research Fellow in Energy Demand Behaviour in the Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds, UK, with a PhD in UK local authority climate change policy. His research has been almost exclusively on the social science and sociology of energy and everyday life, from work on nuclear waste management and renewable energy, through building design and office work, through to transport and mobility studies: everyday travel, modal shift, EVs, charging infrastructures, autonomous vehicles, and electric cargo bikes. His bugbear is the assumption that energy consumption is driven by rational decisions rather than habit, social norms and available infrastructures, and that the climate crisis will therefore be solved by pricing and markets.
